Lillian Knight ~ Miss Los Angeles

Lillian Knight

Lillian Knight was a silent film actress and a Mack Sennett bathing beauty

She was born in California and started her career as a dancer. When she was a teenager she was briefly married to Clarence Earl Knight. In 1924 she was chosen to be Miss Los Angeles. One of her prizes was a week's work at Mack Sennett's studio. Lillian was offered a film contract and became one of Sennett's famous bathing beauties. She appeared in the comedies From Rags To Britches, Skinners In Silk, and Super Hooper Dyne Lizzies. Unhappy with the roles she was getting she walked out on her contract. Flo Ziegfeld asked her to join the Ziegfeld Follies but she turned him down. Then she was signed by Warner Brothers in 1925.

Lillian spent more than two years recovering from the accident. She wanted to resume her career but was only able to get work as an extra. In an interview she said "I decided that the main thing was to keep on working in pictures. My hard luck has run its course and my break will come one of these days." Lillian went to New York in 1928 to appear in the Broadway show Whoopee. On April 8, 1930 she married Charles Curtis from New York City. She filed for divorce in 1938 claiming he was cruel to her.
